What is the main cause of mechanical seal leakage?

The main causes of mechanical seal leakage include the following aspects:

    Insufficient processing accuracy: During the manufacturing process of mechanical seal equipment, the sealing performance  may be reduced due to insufficient processing accuracy.

Excessive vibration: If vibration factors are not taken into consideration when designing mechanical seal equipment, the sealing effect may be poor.

    Large axial movement of the pump shaft: Axial movement may cause the sealing surface to fail to fit effectively, causing leakage.

    Leakage caused by pressure: When the specific pressure at the sealing end is too large or the pressure in the sealing cavity exceeds a certain value, the liquid film is difficult to form, and the wear of the sealing end face increases, which may lead to leakage.

    Aging of sealing materials: The quality of sealing materials directly affects the sealing effect. Over time, sealing materials may lose elasticity and sealing performance, resulting in leakage.

Limitations of sealing methods: Different types of sealing methods have different resistance to leakage, and inappropriate environmental and working conditions may also cause leakage.

     Harsh sealing environment: Extreme conditions in the working environment, such as high temperature, high pressure, corrosion, etc., will cause damage to sealing materials and sealing components, thereby increasing the risk of leakage.

     Problems during installation and use: Improper installation or incorrect operation may affect the correct function and life of the seal, resulting in leakage.

     Damage or deformation of the friction pair: The friction pair may be damaged or deformed during movement, which can also lead to leakage

     Other factors include: the spring specific pressure is too small, the sealing ring material is incorrectly selected, particle impurities are caught in the friction pair, the spring rotation direction is wrong, the sealing surface and the axis are not perpendicular to the axis, and the error is too large.
