Advantages And Disadvantages of Metal Bellows Mechanical Seals

Metal bellows mechanical seals have a wide range of applications, from low temperature to high temperature, from neutral medium to corrosive medium, from low speed to high speed, and from ordinary to harsh working conditions.

Advantages of metal bellows mechanical seals:

1. The sealing end face of the bellows mechanical seal is relatively uniformly stressed;

2. The structure is simple, easy to install, highly adaptable, and the stationary ring has floating properties.

3. The bellows mechanical seal has good tracking performance, which can compensate for the end face gap (generally required to be less than 1μm) caused by the bending deformation of the rotating shaft, equipment vibration, and the coaxiality error between the dynamic and static rings and the sleeve to a certain extent, thereby reducing the leakage of the mechanical seal;

4. The stationary ring of the bellows mechanical seal is fastened to the mechanical seal gland with bolts. Most of the stationary rings of spring-type mechanical seals basically rely on the over-fitting of the O-ring with the mechanical seal gland, as well as the action of fluid pressure and external springs to seal. They are affected by the matching size and corrosion degree of the gland sealing surface, and the sealing effect is poor.

5. Compared with large spring type mechanical seals, bellows mechanical seals are less affected by sleeve surface corrosion;
