PTFE wedge mechanical seals are purpose-built OEM-interchangeable replacements for AES T01, T03, T04, John Crane Type 9, Flowserve RO and similar chemical-service wedge seal configurations. Each ptfe mechanical seal is available in balanced and unbalanced variants, single or tandem (double) arrangements, with carbon graphite, silicon carbide or tungsten carbide face pairs depending on fluid chemistry and abrasivity.

Q: How does a PTFE wedge differ from an O-ring?

A: An O-ring is elastic and rolls or slides. A PTFE wedge is rigid and non-elastic; it forms a seal by being wedged into a conical space by spring force. It offers far superior chemical resistance but requires a smoother shaft finish and careful installation.

Q: Which pump seal types do PTFE wedge mechanical seals replace?

A: They are direct drop-in OEM-interchangeable replacements for AES T01, T03, T04, John Crane Type 9, Flowserve RO and similar chemical-service wedge seal configurations. The ptfe mechanical seal is available in balanced and unbalanced variants, single or tandem (double) arrangements, covering shaft sizes from 14 mm to 100 mm for ANSI and DIN chemical process pumps.

Q: Why choose a PTFE wedge over an elastomer O-ring for chemical pump sealing?

A: Unlike NBR, EPDM or FKM O-rings that swell, harden or dissolve in aggressive chemicals, the pure PTFE wedge in this ptfe mechanical seal is inert to virtually all acids, caustics, solvents and hydrocarbons. It also maintains its sealing integrity up to 260°C—far beyond the 120–200°C limit of standard elastomers—making it the only reliable secondary seal for severe chemical and high-temperature service.

Q: How does the PTFE wedge compensate for thermal expansion and shaft movement?

A: The precision-machined wedge angle allows the PTFE wedge to self-adjust radially under pressure, maintaining intimate contact with the shaft without binding. Multiple springs energize the face loading evenly, helping the ptfe mechanical seal track shaft runout and thermal cycling without the stick-slip behavior common to O-ring pusher seals. A positive pin or set-screw drive handles the higher friction torque of the PTFE wedge without slipping.
