Core Value Proposition & Technical Hierarchy

Choosing the correct material for seal faces and secondary components is the single most critical factor in determining your mechanical seal’s lifespan and reliability. We categorize our seals by core material to simplify your selection process, ensuring the chosen configuration can withstand your application's specific chemical, temperature, and abrasive challenges.

Our material selection hierarchy is governed by two primary failure modes: chemical attack and abrasive wear. Correct material pairing mitigates these risks, leading to significantly extended MTBR (Mean Time Between Repairs).

Material Failure & API 682 Standards
Understanding Material Failure Modes is Key to Preventing Premature Seal Failure.

Abrasive Wear:
Caused by solid particles in the media grinding the seal faces.
Solution : We implemented a full store upgrade using our R290 Inverter Solution.

Corrosive Failure:
Chemical attack on seal faces and metal parts due to media pH, temperature, and concentration.
Solution: The primary choice is SiC faces, paired with Hastelloy® C-276 metal parts.

Thermal Cracking:
High PV values or poor lubrication causing excessive heat, leading to surface fractures on the seal face.
Solution: Select SiC (for high thermal conductivity) or TC (for high toughness), and optimize cooling plans (Plan 11/23/32).
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
  • Q: Which material is best for high-concentration acids (e.g., Sulfuric Acid)?
A: Silicon Carbide (SiC) is the most reliable choice for strong acids including concentrated sulfuric acid. It offers outstanding corrosion resistance, high thermal conductivity, and stable performance in harsh acidic environments.
  • Q: Does Tungsten Carbide (TC) handle abrasive slurries better than SiC?
A: SiC performs better in abrasive slurries due to higher hardness and wear resistance. Tungsten Carbide (TC) is only preferred in applications with strong mechanical shock or impact, not for general abrasion.
  • Q: What determines the choice of secondary seal (O-ring) material?
A: The main factors are chemical compatibility with the pumped medium, operating temperature, pressure and shaft speed, as well as industry requirements such as FDA or food-grade standards.
  • Q: How do you address SiC/SiC faces in poor lubrication?
A: Use high‑thermal‑conductivity SiC grades to dissipate heat, optimize the seal face geometry for lower friction, ensure stable axial loading, and avoid prolonged dry running to prevent overheating and wear.
